Are Americans Safe

Does anything work in America? Does it always take a crisis for the people who are being paid to do their jobs?

The current President Bush was over in Iraq yesterday and a shoe was thrown at him twice before the secret service reacted. If the shoe incident was not startling enough, the secret service was extremely slow to react to protect our current president. So what does this mean? These individuals that are getting paid these lucrative salaries to put their lives on the line are incapable of doing exactly what they were hired to do? Hopefully someone got fired. Bush was pretty lucky, though. His response was commendable. I was proud of how he handled himself during the incident.

Time after time, year after year, we are presented with a crisis or an incident and we prove that we are not prepared for them. It is only after a crisis that we decide to toughen up on our measurements.
Are we really safe here in America? Or should I say, are Americans safe? Are Americans living in bubbles?

September 11 2001, was a horrific crisis that we were not prepared for. Our pilots and security measures were not trained to take on this sort of terrorist situation. It was definitely a new type of threat towards Americans. As a result, thousands of people lost their life that was initiated by a few men. Airport security practices extremely paranoid methods to this day that did not exist prior to 9/11.

Hurricane Katrina took place in August 2005. Louisiana residents experienced their worst crisis ever. This situation would possibly been less detrimental if their levees were in place. Their rescue efforts were delayed and insufficient because one entity placed blame on the other in deciding who was more responsible or who was better equip to handle a disaster of this nature.

Today our financial system has proven to be a failed and incompetent one due to whom? Is it greedy mortgage brokers who try to get over on vulnerable homebuyers? Is it irresponsible Americans that try to get over on spending and loans? Is it big financial entities that try to get over on those who are just trying to fulfill a need? Well who fault is it? How long has it been at fault? Did we foresee this happening and we ignored it? Regardless of the fault, the sytem has not been working and now everything has went to crap as a result; minimum jobs, business failing, homes foreclosing, less spending and the list goes on.

Most recently, the FBI uncovers scandalous politics in Illinois. It’s almost as if corruption and scandal is new to the political arena. A politician is in the spotlight almost yearly due to some sort of illegal effort. But now our nation is receiving an awakening due to the recurrent nature of corruption in Illinois. WTH? So the people of Illinois were never being truly served and it’s probably possible that many Americans are left unserved due to selfish agendas of politicians.

So are we safe here as Americans? Are we being served as constituents? Are we left defenseless until a crisis occurs? Those who protect and serve, who do they really service? It’s definitely a question we should be asking ourselves. Hopefully as a result, we find that answer.

Delete Comment I'm not quite sure if the shoe thing could have been avoided (well, maybe not the 1st one at least) but I agree with your point in general that we are reactive in this country as opposed to proactive because being proactive -- and I don't mean funding a useless war against a people who hadn't done anything to us "yet", as an excuse to cover up the whole WMD debacle -- takes time, energy, planning, negotiating and forethought that seemingly this country doesn't have time for.

Take the health care system in this country that focuses on being reactive to a disease or illness, instead of being proactive and working to prevent the development of illness in the 1st place. It is not much different with our penal system -- instead of taking care to ensure we educate and esteem our children, we'd much rather build bigger and better jails for when fall out favor. I personally think there has to be some monetary motivation for this particular philosophy because otherwise it's just insanity.

I pray that the next administration is wiser and understands the necessity of creating viable solutions so that we don't recreate the mistakes of the past.

Delete Comment What is protection
Is protection a what?
Is a gun a Pro tech action?

or a terror making machination!!!

Protection, pro to action, for loving, is the only security I know!!!

It forgives, it is patient, it is kind, it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and wins!!!

Can the government protect us?

One out of two/four women will be raped in her lifetime.

A gun is a terror making machine for cowards who do not know how to love.

who do not know how to love themselves or their neighbor. A gun kills.
It is an equalizer. You can kill me. I can kill you.

A governments job is to protect. It can create a machine gun. It can create a bomb. It can kill the many. The few are left. Who are those few? How a government governs makes all the difference. How we govern ourselves creates our government.

Love is the only creative security I know!!!

My father has not protected me, my husband has not protected me, my mother has not protected me, my church has not protected me, my school has not protected me, my government cannot protect us. We are the governed and the government, of the people, by the people, for the people. The government cannot do anything that we do not do. The government is us! When my father learns what real love is, when my husband learns what real love is, when etc.. When we learn what real love is....

We will throw away our defenses.

We will throw away the guns.
We will have discovered the secret to life.

Life is what we make it!

Make it well!

If our democracy is really an oligarchy (rule of the few for the few), it is representative of who we really are. If we are a people of the few like us, by the few like us, for the few like us, we are supporting an oligarchy. If we are a people who really believe the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all, we need to throw down our guns and "have a real" life, be free and choose what creates happiness for all. If we have to defend our rights, we have already failed to live them. Is our capitalism destroying our real democreacy? Capitalism purports to be the best way to serve our neighbor. If capitalism is used to serve only a few, it also fails. If democracy serves only a few it also fails. If we serve only a few we also fail. We choose the few who represent us in government. If we want a better government, we need to be better people. We need to be aware of who we are and what we want and how it effects our world. We then need to pick people who represent us. We have a wonderful opportunity in our democracy to create a wonderful world. We need to take our "job" seriously. We get what we "think".

Real security is what we create when we learn to love/care for all "creation", not just a few.

Pro to action!!!

Delete Comment More good reasons not to let our governments take away our rights to gun ownership. They are the equalizer.
